Step 1: Purchase a Reliable Generator

Some people prefer building their generators when making wind turbines. However, the process can be a bit complicated. Alternatively, you can consider using a magnet DC motor as your generator.

It is one of the simplest options. With that in mind, you should look for the best magnetic motors for your project.

While you can use old computer drive motors, you can use a 99 volt DC motor. This motor has been praised by many people for working well like a generator.

Step 2: Make Blades

Using white latex paint, paint all the wood sections. The main aim of painting the wood is to protect it from extreme weather. Although it is not a must, you can add a counterweight specifically on the left side.

This will balance the head.

Step 7: Finish the Wind Turbine Head

Now you should finish the head unit and attach the blades. If you had made accurate dimensions, you would definitely have an easy time finishing the wind turbine head.

Step 8: Make the Charge Controller

You have already sorted out the mechanical parts. At this step, you should start working on the electronic end of your project. Typically, a wind power system must have two or more batteries. The batteries are used to store the power produced by the turbine.

Using a blocking diode is recommended to prevent power from being wasted more so when the generator is spinning. There are different types of controllers you can look at. Fortunately, you can easily build your wind power systems if you have the right schematics.

You can make your charge controller by bolting the pieces to plywood. If you do it, you can just rebuild it in a weatherproof enclosure at the end of your project.

Step 9: Erect the Tower

You have completed all parts of your project. This can take a week but you can still do it quickly if you have built one before. The first thing you must do is set up and brace the tower.

To anchor the pole, you can use a nylon rope. Be sure to use hinges because they will quickly lower and raise the tower.
