I had been wanting to build my brother a sideboard for a while. I had the perfect spot for it in his new house and it would be the perfect housewarming gift. I got to work designing and measuring the piece. I wanted it to be just right.

The hard part was picking out the right wood. I wanted something that would look good and be durable. After much deliberation, I decided on cherry. It was a beautiful wood and it would age well.

I started working on the piece and it quickly came together. I was so proud of it. It turned out even better than I had hoped. My brother was thrilled with it and he immediately put it to use in his new home.

I was greeted by my brother and his wife at the door. They were so happy to see me! We all went into the living room and I presented the sideboard to my brother. His face lit up with happiness! He loved it!

Once you’ve selected the right sideboard for your needs, it’s time to decorate! Start by choosing a color scheme or theme for the space. If you’re going for a classic look, try using neutral colors like black, white, or beige. If you want something more colorful, try using bright shades of blue, green, or red.

How to make a DIY sideboard

Step 1: Cut the pieces

Using the given list, cut the parts as per the required sizes. The door and sides should have a vertical grain pattern, while the top board and drawer fronts should have a horizontal grain pattern.

Step 2

Prepare your tools and drill three pocket holes, one in the center of each end, through the Bottom Board and Horizontal Divider. All of the Side Boards and the Vertical Dividers need extra pocket holes drilled into their top edges.

Step 3

It’s time to put the finishing touches on the plywood by adhering veneer strips to the cut edges.

Step 4

Put the bottom board on the table, then the horizontal divider, then the top board, and use a mallet to strike a centerline. Using a speed square, mark out a centerline along the leading edge of all three boards.

Step 5

The bottom of the Top Board, the top and bottom of the Horizontal Divider, and the Bottom Board should all form a square with the center of the frame.

Step 6

An appropriate solution would be to set up a vertical divisor (upper) – Set the Top Board with its underside facing up on the table or counter. Wood glue should be used to adhere to the top of the vertical divider (Upper). Setting up shop with its center on the Top Board’s centerline.

Step 7

Stand the top, bottom, and sideboards on their edges, and then slide them loosely into the corner clamps to assemble the structure. Pocket holes on the Side Boards must face inward during assembly. It’s best to position the Bottom Board between the two Side Boards, and the Top Board above it.

Step 8

Make sure the back supports are attached by drilling pocket holes at the very end of the 212-inch-wide Back Support pieces. Place the components with the pocket holes facing the back of the assembly, then secure them using glue and screws.

Step 9

Get some glue and cover the vertical divider’s base, then use the horizontal divisor (Upper). When the construction of the walls is complete, the Horizontal Divider should be positioned inside them.

Contrast the Horizontal Divider with the Vertical One (Upper). Set up the Vertical Divider so that its lower edge is flush with the bottom of the Horizontal Divider, and drill three pilot holes through both (Upper).

Step 10

Position the Horizontal Divider so that its ends are perpendicular to the Side Boards, and secure it in place after adjusting its height. Use a drill/driver to secure the Horizontal Divider’s end pieces to the Side Boards.

Step 11

To begin, with the pocket holes facing outward, assemble the two Vertical Dividers (Lower) using wood glue.

Step 12

Assemble both drawers according to the above cut list and my Easy DIY Drawer Tutorial.

Step 13

Dry fit the cabinet fronts and doors; once the cabinet is complete, lay it on its back and then set the drawer and door fronts into place. Bar clamps are used to secure the Drawer Fronts to the Top Board’s face and the board’s ends. Make the appropriate modifications and reposition the Doors.

Step 14

Before the drawers can be installed or the doors and fronts joined, the parts must be prepared and discolored by sanding, and staining.

Step 15

Put the drawers in the cabinet and lock them. – Clamp in place a spacer block in the drawer cavity so that it rests flush on the bottom of the Top Board (I’m using a 13 board that’s actually 2 1/2 inches wide).

Step 16

You should install the drawer slides and clamp the spacer block so that it is perpendicular to the drawer’s base. Arrange the rail so that it rests on top of the dividing block.

Step 17

Install the drawers, taking care to align the rails on either side of the drawer with the slides inside the cabinet. Please lower the drawer all the way to the floor.

Step 18

Cover the front of each drawer with wood glue to ensure a snug fit with the cabinet doors. Position the drawer fronts as desired, then secure them in place with the clamps.

Step 19

Due to the small expansion spaces between the front doors and drawers, installing this cabinet can be tricky.

Step 20

When installing the feet, make sure they are centered 1.5 inches from the front and rear of the Bottom Board and 2 inches from the outer edges.

Step 21

To install the wooden knobs, hack them in. Using the installation template as a guide, drill pilot holes for each knob.

Step 22

Connect the cluster’s plug, then insert the knobs’ threaded rods into their holes.

Step 23

Put a dab of wood glue on the bottom of each Back Support and give yourself a swift smack on the back of the head.
